Vladimir Putin is the current Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, born on October 7, 1952 in Leningrad which is now St. Petersburg Russia. As a child he studied the martial arts with a concentration on sambo, a combination of judo and wrestling. In 1974, he was the city's judo champion and graduated in 1975 with honours. After he graduated he was recruited by the KGB where he studied espionage and foreign intelligence. In 1985 it is believed that he was spying on NATO's member nations and recruiting new agents during this time. In 1998, he was appointed head of the Federal Security Service, the replacement for the KGB, by President Boris Yeltsin. In 1999, he was named prime minister by Yeltsin. In the elections of March 2000, Putin won by a good margin, becoming Russia's youngest leader since Josef Stalin in 1922. On 14 March 2004, Putin was re-elected to the presidency for a second term, receiving 71% of the vote. On 4 March 2012 Putin won the 2012 Russian presidential elections in the first round. In February 2011 under the famous hockey player Alexei Kasatonov’s supervision became a confident ice skater. He shot a tiger with a tranquilliser gun and saved some journalists from being mauled. There are also allegations that Putin secretly owns a large fortune through stakes in oil companies. The estimated value of these holdings would easily make him the richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $70bn. This claim has never been supported with evidence.
