[文摘] WORLD'S QUICKEST TRAIN

The Shanghai Maglev train is the world’s first commercially operated high speed magnetic levitation train. The train line was designed to connect Shanghai Pudong International Airport to the outskirts of central Pudong, where passengers can change to the Shanghai metro to continue on to Shanghai city. Construction of the line began in 2001 and became a commercial service in 2004. Maglev uses magnetic levitation to suspend, guide and propel the train forward rather than using mechanical methods, such as wheels and bearings. There is less friction so the train is able to reach much higher speeds than a normal conventional train. The top operational speed is 431 km/h, making it the world's fastest, quicker than TGV in France and the conventional wheel train in China at 350 km/h. During a non-commercial test the Maglev achieved a record speed of 501 km/h. The top operational speed is 431 km/h which is faster than the top speed of any Formula One car. It cost roughly $1.33bn to build. At this kind of speed, it would take roughly 2 hours to get from Melbourne to Sydney.
